Founder and owner Anthony Scerri created Smoke Sweats out of a genuine love for BBQ culture. Starting in 2008, he hosted an annual BBQ for 5 years straight with a consistently growing crowd of 40 to 200+. It was at these events that he saw people from different communities, backgrounds, and cultures come together to find one another and become lifelong friends.

 

Smoke Sweats was unofficially born.

In 2019, on a rooftop in Astoria (Queens, NY), Anthony came up with the concept of creating an intimate BBQ experience for small groups of people to meet, eat, and learn about the smoking process. After successful events and collaborations with other small business owners, the idea of Smoke Sweats started to grow more valid.

 

 In 2020, he moved with his wife to Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn. COVID-19 put a halt to small-scale events indefinitely but opened up an opportunity for something else. We created an Instagram-exclusive experience for people to purchase BBQ. Smoke Sweats would drop unannounced stories and customers would reserve their food on a first come first served basis. This created a cult following throughout the boroughs even as far as Westchester. Delivery was always free of charge and contact-free for the safety of others.

On April 28th, 2020, Smoke Sweats BBQ became a legitimate operation helping multiple businesses (mostly bars) stay afloat during a time of turmoil and donating to first responders + front-line healthcare workers whenever he could.

Using his 15+ years of graphic design and event marketing experience, Anthony evolved Smoke Sweats into a full-service BBQ culture shop with the goal of helping other businesses in the industry on every vertical. He figured, "If you're going to hire someone to help your business grow, why note someone on the inside who shares the same passion and values"?
